Katsuya Watanabe, oboe

 

After graduating from Saitama Prefectural Urawa High School, he went on to graduate from Tokyo University of the Arts, where he joined the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1990, he won the first prize in the oboe division of the Japan Winds and Percussion Competition and the grand prize, and in 1991, he moved to Germany, where he served as principal conductor of the Wuppertal Symphony Orchestra, the Karlsruhe State Opera Orchestra, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, and is currently principal conductor of the Soliszt Europeans in Luxembourg. He is currently Principal of the Soliszt Europeans Luxembourg. He has performed as a soloist with the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, Wuppertal Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, etc. From autumn 2010 to March 2013, he wrote "Katsuya Watanabe's Berlin Music Tour" for Sankei Newspaper. In 2011, he chaired the jury for the 28th Japan Winds and Percussion Competition for Oboe. He is a guest professor at Senzoku Gakuen School of Music. Lives and works in Berlin.
