Leather can dry out even while it is being put away in a shoe box.
Clearing out this summer dirt and putting it away after plenty of moisturizing will keep the leather from being damaged in the winter shoe boxes.

Sandal "liner cleaning" is also recommended at the end of summer.
It is recommended that sandals worn a lot during this summer's excursions be cleared of sweat stains before putting them away in the shoe box!
Cleaning the liner with feet on it and clearing it of sweat and dirt before putting it away will help prevent winter mold.
