JOHNBULL] Fat Lava & German Art Pottery

NEWS

Hello!

Mint Kobe, 4th floor, JOHNBULL.

Today, we would like to introduce the German vintage potteries "Fat Lava" POP-UP STORE.

The period is 13 days from 7/18(Fri)-7/30(Wed).

Vintage ceramics from Germany. We have received them directly from collectors who have taken good care of them for many years,
There will be a selection of about 50 kiis that will be on display, all of which are dedicated to promoting the kiis in Japan.
Please come and see the wide variety of expressions and textures to find your favorite.

What is Fat Lava/German Art Pottery?

Many of them were active in Germany from the end of World War II through the 1980s, when a number of pottery workshops and manufacturers were active in Germany,
Many unique ceramics were produced.

In the beginning, it insists on a design ethic that follows Bauhaus guidelines, integrating curvilinear and composite elements,
A series of ceramics that look like cubism will be on display.

At KIIS, they are collectively called German Art Pottery.

Especially from the late 1950s and 1960s, ceramics with a primitive look reminiscent of lava or granite that has cooled and hardened are produced.
It will become one of the production trends.

The glaze was applied in layers, and its three-dimensional form, which looked as if it were dripping, was also a symbolic element.

They were later called "Fat Lava" and became a major catalyst for German ceramics to become known throughout the world.

The production process involves the industrial formation of forms designed by designers, followed by decorators
It is glazed by hand and fired to complete the process.

The glaze is also activated during the firing process, and the uncontrollable nature of the glaze, combined with the uniqueness of the decoration of each piece, also makes it unique.
This is one of the major attractions of these ceramics.
